Jeff: (00:01)
Hey guys, this is Jeff and John from Best Price Nutrition. You can find our website and shop online at bestpricenutrition.com. You can also find us at all the social media profiles, and especially here on YouTube.Today, we've gotten a lot of questions about this, just because a lot of our customers are people that attend the gym. And if you have watched the news whatsoever, you know that the next big thing out there that everybody's talking about is monkeypox.

John: (00:31)
Right?

Jeff: (00:31)
So of course we have gotten the question quite a bit, and we're not physicians, but we get the questions from customers a lot is, "Can we get monkeypox from the gym?"

John: (00:44)
Right? Has that crossed your mind at all?

Jeff: (00:46)
Honestly, no.

John: (00:47)
No?

Jeff: (00:47)
No.

John: (00:48)
You know what? I could care less about anything and the other day I was like, "Huh, I wonder if you could get that."

Jeff: (00:53)
Yeah. That probably makes sense why I still see a lot of people more than-

John: (00:58)
Using sanitizers?

Jeff: (00:59)
... spraying the benches and everything. That probably is why more people are starting to think about it a little bit more.

John: (01:03)
Right.

Jeff: (01:04)
But honestly, I'm with you. I really don't think about it.

John: (01:07)
It's probably not a terrible idea to sanitize stuff.

Jeff: (01:10)
Yes. So, because of that question, John was like, "You know what? We should look into this, see what the governing bodies say about this, see what some doctors say about this." And what did you find?

John: (01:21)
So, this is something that's been in the news. We're finally done with COVID for the most part, now we've got monkeypox popping up. And from what we're hearing, 95% of cases are among gay men who seem to be having a lot of sex, attending orgies, things like that. Not to get too political, but there seems to be kind of a lot of people who don't want to acknowledge how it's spreading. And it seems to be kind of causing fear amongst everyone, people sending their kids back to school. So we looked into this a little bit. We got a couple quotes from doctors, so there's a Dr. Jessica Justman, an associate professor of medicine and epidemiology at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. And she says it's unlikely for a variety of reasons. So number one, with monkeypox living on surfaces, it seems to be kind of more linens and porous surfaces. And she kind of says at the gym, everything's going to be what, that patent leather, metal, it's not really surfaces that are really going to harbor-

Jeff: (02:21)
It's going to be stale-like.

John: (02:21)
Yeah.

Jeff: (02:21)
Yes.

John: (02:21)
Not really surfaces that are going to be harboring bacteria. Also surfaces that would be very easy to wipe down. She also went on to say that the biggest risk in how it's mainly spread is through like the pustules and pus and things like that come out of the sores. She said they tend to be kind of around the genital area. Most people at the gym are going to have clothes on, at most gyms, at least the gym I attend. So she said it's very unlikely. We also have another quote from the Chicago Department of Public Health, who also called it "highly unlikely" and noted that no such cases have been reported. So we have seen a big uptick in people searching for this topic online. Google Trends has it exploding. And like I said, it even kind of occurred to me, like, "Should I be a little bit more conscious of wiping things down?" No cases have been reported yet and the doctors seem to say it's highly unlikely. Also because of the type of virus it is, it's what they call an envelope virus, so the actual virus is coated in some type of fatty layer that's easily killed by household disinfectants and things like that.

Jeff: (03:23)
Oh, really? Okay.

John: (03:23)
So the spray at the gym is going to disinfect the virus and there's pretty much no risk after that.

Jeff: (03:28)
So if people are still concerned about at the gym, so you're saying because of the type of virus it is, a good spray down of the equipment should wipe it up.

John: (03:37)
Yep. That's what they seem to be saying.

Jeff: (03:39)
Yes. And we're not physicians. So again, we're giving you some data that is from the Chicago Department of Health, a few doctors online. And if you are concerned, don't listen to us, talk to your physician about it specifically, but we just want to provide some extra information about it.

John: (03:55)
I hate to say that fall's almost here, but fall is right around the corner, when cold and flus and things like that start popping up. So if people do want to strengthen their immune system, we do have a whole collection of immunity supplements, we put together: zinc, elderberry, vitamin D, echinacea, EpiCor, all that type of stuff. We'll link to that below the video. If you guys want to check it out, we have a whole collection of kind of immune compounds or blends as well as single ingredient stuff. Most of that stuff tends to be pretty cheap.

Jeff: (04:23)
Yep.

John: (04:24)
So yeah, you can always pick that stuff up as well.

Jeff: (04:26)
Yeah. If you have any questions about this topic, I'm not sure how many we can answer, but there's probably some doctors that are followers on our YouTube channel. And if you yourself have seen other data come out, we'd love to hear it. We can do, maybe if this continues to be a trend, maybe do an updated video a few months down the line.

John: (04:45)
It seems like all this is still kind of new. Nobody can really say how long it lives on surfaces. So yeah, as it evolves, maybe we'll do a follow-up video, but yeah, it seems like at least the data that's out there seems very, very low risk and no reported cases thus far.

Jeff: (04:57)
All right. So again guys, this is John and Jeff. You can buy any of the supplements that we talked about for immunity at bestpricenutrition.com.
