Fairlife Protein Shakes vs. Nurri Protein Shakes: A Side-by-Side Comparison

Fairlife Protein Shakes vs. Nurri Protein Shakes: A Side-by-Side Comparison

Fairlife vs Nurri RTD Protein Shakes

When it comes to Ready to Drink Protein Shakes both FairLife and Nurri offer ultra-filtered high protein options that cater to those seeking a convenient way to drink their protein shakes without needing shaker bottles and without any messy powders. Both of these are also popular options at Costco stores where they're sold by the case. If you haven't read our review and breakdown of Nurri Protein Shakes, be sure to check that out here, and if you're interested in buying Nurri RTD Protein Shakes you can purchase them here.

While both of these shakes have similar nutritional profiles, there are key differences in taste, texture and company practices that may influence which one you buy. It's also worth pointing out that these aren't traditional protein shakes but are high protein milk drinks or nutritional drinks, though that's kind of semantics, both are protein drinks which feature 30 grams of protein from skim milk and low fat milk.

Nutritional Comparison: FairLife vs Nurri

Both FairLife and Nurri shakes are protein drinks for those looking to increase their protein intake without excessive calories, fats or carbs. Many also use these drinks as meal replacement drinks or post workout recovery drinks.

Nurri Ultra-Filtered Milk Shake: Nurri is made with skim milk, Nurri's shake offers 30 grams of protein, 150 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 3 grams of carbs and a single gram of sugar. Nurri is lactose free and sweetened with sucralose and monk fruit giving it a good balance between taste and nutrition. In addition it provides 10 essential vitamins and minerals to help round out the nutritional profile and which make it a good option as a meal replacement shake. Nurri Shakes are designed to mimic the taste of a classic milkshake while offering the benefits of real milk protein. I've been drinking these shakes for a few weeks and it's oftentimes a good late night snack to satisfy my sweet tooth without adding a ton of sugar, calories or carbs to my diet.

FairLife Chocolate Nutrition Shake: FairLife's Shake also packs 30 grams of milk protein per serving from low fat milk with 150 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, 4 grams of carbs and 2 grams of sugar. This protein shake also uses ultra-filtered milk which removes most of the lactose making it easier to digest for those who are lactose sensitive. FairLife is a bit higher in carbs but still remains a low carb option.

From a purely nutritional standpoint these shakes are almost identical, both featuring 30 grams of protein and 150 calories. Nurri has a slight edge with one less gram of sugar and one less grams of carbs, however that's really not enough to tilt the scales and it would make sense to pick the one whos' flavor and texture you find superior.

Taste & Texture: FairLife vs Nurri

When it comes to taste, this is going to be very subject and come down to personal preference, but I'll give you my take...

Nurri: Many users compare the taste of Nurri to YooHoo, while it's not spot on, I can see the comparison of Nurri being a less sweet and less sugary YooHoo. Many appreciate the balanced flavor of Nurri Shakes. They have a much tinner consistency compared to FairLife which makes them feel lighter, but also still tasty and satisfying. Despite it's lack of thickness, creaminess and that "Milkshake Like" texture many people like it tastes great and doesn't have a strong protein taste or biter aftertaste like I personally find FairLife does.

FairLife: While FairLife offers a rich chocolate taste and a thicker creamier texture, I myself and some others users find that it has a strange bitter aftertaste and a stronger "protein flavor". The creamier texture is a positive for many but may not be enough to counter the lingering aftertaste. I will say however that FairLife has a loyal following and many people consider FairLife to be their favorite protein shake.

Again, this is very subject and comes down to personal opinion but personally I greatly prefer Nurri over Fairlife in terms of taste and texture. Nurri has a superior taste in my opinion with no strong bitter aftertaste or protein taste. While it is thinner, its tasty and I don't mind that at all, though I do also enjoy thicker more milkshake like protein shakes.

Ethical Considerations: FairLife vs Nurri

One important factor to consider when choosing between these two brands is FairLife's history of animal welfare concerns. In recent years FairLife has faced significant criticism and backlash due to reports and videos of poor treatment of cows at some of their supplier farms. Videos that surfaced show animal abuse led to a public outcry and boycots. While FairLife has since pledged to improve their practices and implement better monitoring systems, the controversy may still weigh heavily on those who prioritize ethical food choices.

Nurri has not faced any similar controversies regarding the treatment of animals in their supply chain, however in fairness to FairLife Nurri is a brand new company and we don't know how their suppliers treat their animals. The reality is the factory farming system in this country is cruel and gross and it's possible Nurri isn't much better but to date they haven't had any of these controversies.

Final Thoughts

When comparing FairLife and Nurri it's clear both shakes have their strengths and both shakes are incredibly similar in regards to macros making your choice really come down to personal preference. I'd try both shakes and see which you prefer. While Nurri has a slight edge with less carbs and sugar, its only by a gram so not enough to warrant a choice purely based on that.

If you're looking for a lighter shake without a strong aftertaste or protein taste Nurri may be the shake for you. If you prefer a thicker creamier shake FairLife may be the better choice for you. Ultimately the decision comes down to you, do you prefer flavor or texture and are company practices important to you. Whichever you choose both provide an excellent source of high quality protein to help you meet your fitness goals.
