Redcon1 Energy Drink Review & Taste Test
About a year back Redcon1 began teasing out the idea of rolling out an energy drink. Sometime had passed and we hadn't heard much about it, however a few weeks back Redcon1 dropped a new Redcon1 Energy website for their all new energy drink, giving us a bit more information and a better idea of what to expect. Energy Drinks have always been popular, however recently we've seen more traditional sports nutrition brands rolling out their own energy drink lines. REPP Sports dropped their RAZE Energy Drinks which became hugely popular and were so well receieved that they've begun to transition their entire REPP Sports brand over to the RAZE branding. More recently sports nutrition brand 1st Phorm also dropped their own energy drink. Redcon1 is an OG and a long standing leader in the sports nutrition and supplement industry so it only makes sense they'd drop their own drink. The Redcon1 Energy Drinks just dropped the other day and as part of a marketing push and rollout they sent sample kits out to retailers like ourselves which included Tall Boy Redcon1 Coozies to fit the drinks, 4 flavors to try, and a bunch of shot glasses so that all employees could sample them.
REDCON1 ENERGY DRINK REVIEW
So Redcon1 sent out these Redcon1 Energy Gift Boxes to Redcon1 retailers to try out the new energy drinks. The boxes contained four flavors including Sour Gummy Blast, Freedom Frost, Vice City, and Cali Splash, the only flavor missing was the Sour Peach Rings flavor which currently is a Vitamin Shoppe exclusive, but one which will likely eventually lose that exclusivity and roll out to all retailers. We'll get into our full review, but just a couple initial thoughts and impressions, the Redcon1 Energy Drinks were tasty, they were just the right amount of carbonation without being overly carbonated, and they had a great flavor and level of sweetness without being syrupy or overly sweet. Overall we were big fans of the Redcon1 Energy drink.
WHAT'S IN THE REDCON1 ENERGY DRINKS?
Redcon1 Energy Drinks contain 0 calories per can. This made me even more impressed with the flavor as I generally find energy drinks with even a small amount of calories like 10 or 20 calories typically taste significantly better than energy drinks with zero calories, however despite having zero calories I thought this drink tasted fantastic.
Redcon1 Energy Drinks pack 200mg of Natural Caffeine, for me personally, and I think for most users this seems to be the perfect amount of caffeine, the 300mg drinks like Bang are a bit too strong, and the 100mg or so drinks like Redbull are a bit too weak, 200mg of Caffeine seems to be the sweet spot and Redcon1 Energy Drinks use Natural Caffeine which is a cleaner better feeling caffeine. Beyond that the drink also contains 200mg of Alpha GPC to support improved memory, cognition and motivation, along with a gram of L-Carnitine to support metabolism and thermogenesis and B Vitamins to support mood and energy. These drinks also lack artificial flavors which is a plus.
WHAT DO REDCON1 ENERGY DRINKS TASTE LIKE?
Okay, so let me start by saying we were all huge fans of the Redcon1 Energy Drinks. The beverages had the perfect level of carbonation ie they weren't overly carbonated which really allowed you to get the full flavor, but at the same time they weren't under carbonated to where they tasted flat or lacked that mouthfeel we like from energy drinks. In terms of the level of flavor and level of sweetness which we often rate in our reviews, the sweetness level was perfect as to allow you to get and enjoy the flavor, but not overly sweet like many energy drinks which taste "syrupy".
So in terms of the four flavors, everyone around the office tried each flavor and it was pretty much universal that everyone's favorite flavor was either the Cali Splash flavor or the Vice City flavor, with everyone agreeing their least favorite flavor was the Sour Gummy Blast flavor.
The Cali Splash tasted like a tropical fruit punch, the Vice City tasted like a tropical punch with a hint of pina colada flavor, the few employees who chose Cali Splash over Vice City all expressed they didn't really like coconut flavor and that's why it wasn't their first, although personally this was my favorite. The Freedom Frost is Redcon1's take on a Bomb Pop flavor, this was a good flavor and it was unique in the sense that most bomb pop or rocket pop flavors tend to taste heavily of the blue part of the bomb pop, where as this one the strongest flavor was the white section of the bomb pop and while it had a bomb pop flavor the strongest flavor that came across was kind of a lemon Italian ice kind of flavor. The Sour Gummy Blast flavor wasn't bad, it just didn't have a strong gummy flavor, we should mention when it comes to preworkouts and energy drinks gummy and sour gummy flavors are a tough flavor to nail and they often come across as just tasting like a generic energy drink or a tasty sugar water. We didn't get a chance to try the Sour Peach Rings as this one is currently a Vitamin Shoppe exclusive, however we have tried that flavor in other energy drinks like Alani Nu and it's a great flavor for energy drinks.
WHAT'S THE VERDICT ON REDCON1 ENERGY DRINKS?
Overall the new Redcon1 Energy Drinks were a hit among everyone here in the office. They put together a great drink in regards to the carbonation level, the level of sweetness, the flavor, and the flavor options they chose. The drinks are the perfect balance of flavor, sweetness and carbonation with no fake or artificial taste to them as many energy drinks have. The level of carbonation was great, the addition of nootropics and thermogenics was good and overall it's just a fantastic drink. This is one of my favorite energy drinks that I've tried in a while and I think this may be my go to energy drink in the afternoons when that afternoon lethargy hits after lunch.
