John:
Today, we're going to be talking about the difference between DMAA and DMHA. Obviously, DMHA fat burners and pre-workouts are by far, our hottest sellers and people who've been taking supplements, people who really like stimulants, once you go DMHA, you can't go back to just caffeine.
Brad:
I could vouch for that, for sure.
John:
And for anyone who's wondering, some of our most popular DMHA fat burners would be pretty much the whole Hi-Tech series of fat burners, the Lipodrenes, [inaudible 00:00:44] 16, another high stim one we got in.
Brad:
The Muscle Force.
John:
Muscle Force. Condemned Labz Arsynist. Some of our most popular fat burners for pre-workouts. Mesomorph.
Brad:
Jack3d.
John:
Jack3d.
Brad:
Convict, El Chapo, Escobar.
John:
Defiant Unleashed. And we have a whole section on our website of DMHA enhanced pre-workouts and also DMHA Fat Burner. So if you guys want to browse and shop strictly the DMHA products, you can do that on our website as well. We also have a great guide on DMHA if you guys are more interested in learning about this ingredient. And give me a little bit of history. So DMAA used to be really popular. A lot of the most popular pre-workouts and fat burners that used to have DMAA transitioned over to DMHA.
Brad:
Yeah, so DMAA, depending when you started working out, if you started working out in the past four years, you probably never had a pre-workout or fat burner with DMAA. If you started before that and you didn't really know what it was, if you had a really strong pre-workout, chances are DMAA was in there. Everyone loved it. It was awesome. It basically went away in 2017, 2018, something like that. Maybe the end of 2017 it got banned and it really shouldn't have because the whole basis of you being able to have an ingredient like this, is that it's found in nature, which it is through the geranium plant. You can find DMAA in there. But it got banned, and even when it was banned, you could still sell off what you had. So the end of 2017 through 2018, people sold out of all the DMAA stuff that they had.
And probably mid 2018, all these companies tried to just take it out and do caffeine products, but they sucked and they weren't strong enough. So they found DMHA, which actually it's been around for a long time, and they put that in there instead of DMAA, I think the most notable products with DMAA were the old Jack3d. That far and away was the most popular one. It looked like a red and white medical label look to it. That and the Mesomorph and the Lipodrenes. Everyone knew what those were, everyone knew that those had DMAA, they were freaking awesome. But now it's all DMHA and DMHA is good. It's probably going to be around forever. I don't see it getting banned. I think if it were going to be banned, it would've by now, but it hasn't. So it's probably here to stay. Both very similar. A lot of people, I think most people probably liked DMAA more, but I think at this point it might be a case of they just haven't used it in a long time. So it's like the nostalgia. DMHA is very good. They're just different.
John:
One thing that I always point out to customers in our brick and mortar retail store next door, if you want to try DMHA and pure DMHA, the MuscleForce Defiant Unleashed pre-workout, very unique. I noticed we have more people coming in looking for, "I want either a caffeine free or a low caffeine pre-workout," but they still want the DMHA. I think it's the only one I've ever seen that has 200 milligrams of DMHA, no caffeine. So a lot of people feel like DMHA, cleaner energy, longer lasting, more euphoric, and a smoother comedown. And a lot of people feel like maybe caffeine is what leads to their crash. So very cool pre-workout you may want to check out, is The Defiant Unleashed.
Brad:
It is a really good pre-workout, I like that one a lot.
John:
Another thing I've heard from some of our customers and just it's kind of a warning to people. I know a lot of people like making their own pre-workouts, and I've had a couple kids in the store recently who said, "Oh, I'm thinking about buying a bag of DMHA or DMAA." You hear about people mixing up dosages and ODing on caffeine and DMHA is quite a bit stronger than caffeine. So tread carefully if you're planning on getting just some raw DMHA powder and adding it to your own supplements.
Brad:
There's a reason you can't buy powdered caffeine anymore. They banned it because there was kids doing full scripts of it, not realizing that. Think about 200 milligrams. Think about it. I don't know if you guys know what size, whatever. That's a little bit of powder is going to be so much of caffeine. If you accidentally take 500 milligrams and a half gram of DMHA, you're going to be fucking out of your mind.
John:
I'm trying to think, SNS Caffeine 501. How much was that? 100 or 200 milligrams of caffeine. And it's just a little.
Brad:
I'm not sure.
John:
Little capsule.
Brad:
Yeah. Most caffeine you get, whatever size. Those are all 200 milligrams and those tablets are going to have a lot of filler in there too. So you think about the actual amount of caffeine, it's so small. Don't mess with powdered stimulants.
John:
In terms of some of the other differences, both are banned by WADA or the World Anti-Doping Association. A lot of people wonder about strength. And even though a lot of people are disappointed that DMAA has gone away, I think most people are content with DMHA, it's more than enough energy. But for anyone who's wondering about the differences, DMAA is about two to three times stronger per milligram than DMHA. Both inhibit the re-uptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, which causes a feeling of euphoria, wakefulness, and most of the studies surround them are as bronchodilators.
Brad:
Which would be for people with asthma and stuff. That's how a lot of this stuff comes about. They'll be asthma medications like albuterol and clenbuterol, those are fat burning ingredients. I know people who use albuterol, but that's what's in an inhaler. Those things started as asthma stuff because bronchodilators open up the bronchials in your lungs, help you breathe more, and the more oxygen you can get going, the more you can burn fat. It's how that works.
John:
And as far as typical dosages, this goes along with the two to three times as strong. The typical dosage in pre-workouts, fat burners with about 50 milligrams of DMAA where it's a hundred to 200 of DMHA. Some of our DMHA pre-workouts are actually going up to what, 225, I think Convict El Chapo and a few others there. In terms of aliases, I know that confuses a lot of people. We get a lot of calls and people say, I don't see DMAA on the labels. So DMAA was referred to as geranium extract sometimes. Whereas DMHA, you'll oftentimes see on the side of tubs as English walnut, Juglans Regia, Octodrine or Kigelia Africana extract. There's probably a dozen other chemical names that are also DMHA.
Brad:
The chemical name that you'll see the most is 2-aminoisoheptane and 2-aminohexapentane or something like that. But the 2-aminoisoheptane is far away more than what you'll see it as any of these things.
John:
And in terms of, and I know you take a lot of DMHA stuff. You've tried a lot of the DMAA stuff as well. As a user in either a pre-workout or a fat burner, what do you feel from either and what's the biggest difference to you between them?
Brad:
Me and Edwin were actually just talking about this. With DMAA, I felt like you got more of a euphoric kick and you could just be in the gym for five hours and it not be anything. DMHA, you get wicked strong focus and a good kick of motivation, I would say. DMAA, you definitely felt good on it. It was almost like a drug, really long-lasting and DMHA is just strong focus, just get it good motivation.
John:
It's the euphoric sense is the main difference.
Brad:
Yeah, I would say so. The euphoric and the DMAA, you would be in the gym for just hours and just be like, "All right. What else? What else? What else?" It was crazy.
John:
If you are a fan of DMAA or if you like that kind of euphoria and that sense of motivation, look for some pre-workouts that have both DMHA and Eria Jarensis. Eria Jarensis is another stimulant that very strong motivation, very strong mood boost and almost sense of euphoria. And I think the combo of those two ingredients is going to be probably very similar to DMAA. Can you think of any off the top of your head that have both? I want to say Defiant Unleashed has both. I know we probably got at least three or four.
Brad:
I think the [inaudible 00:08:25] ones, do I want to say. I know Convict doesn't, I want to say a lot of the newer, strong ones pretty much always have that combo. That seems to be what's coming out.
John:
And you guys can use the search function at the top of our website. If there's an ingredient that you like, whether it be DMHA, Eria Jarensis. Use the search function, whatever products contain that ingredient will typically come up into searches.
Brad:
Did you ever use DMAA?
John:
I think I've tried an old adrenal lead or something like that, that had DMHL. Only once or twice. Some people found some old samples or something like that. I'm wimp when it comes to the stim. So I remember I tried one product before a workout, had the most insane workout of my life, and then laid on the couch the rest of the day, Saturday afternoon.
Brad:
Yeah, and that's one of the thing, honestly, with the DMAA and DMHA, two things. One, you can still find DMAA online from shady places, but I can almost guarantee you it's not real DMAA, something else. The main people who would produce DMAA all got in trouble, all got busted. So the chances of you getting real DMAA now from whatever site it is, very, very slim. And second, with the crashes, I only take DMAA or DMHA on the weekends, like a Saturday or Sunday when I have all day and I'm not going to be at work. It's awesome for the workout. But I do notice with heavy caffeine and either one of these, 'cause I do still have some old DMAA samples, heavy caffeine mixed with these does make me crash hard, but then it'll just make you super tired and like you said, just lay awake with your eyes over for hours and hours. So keep that in mind.
John:
You brought up an interesting point too. I know a lot of people ask, there are some DMHA pre-workouts on the market. They're typically sold as research chemicals, not for human consumption. None of these companies are insured either, just 'cause nobody will offer insurance on an ingredient like that. So there are the products out there, but tread carefully in terms of what you buy and what you take. And like you said, who knows if it's even DMAA in there?
Brad:
Yeah. And I can't say for sure, but based on my knowledge and the people that I know and people who do testing and stuff, the chances of it being real DMAA are so slim, you're just better off getting something that you know what it is, like a DMHA or just anything else because it's just probably not DMAA. It might be something even worse. Who knows? What have we got then? The side effects. So side effects. This is going to be mainly all stimulants.
John:
What you would find in any stimulant.
Brad:
Yeah. Rise in blood pressure and stress response. If you take too much, you'll know these ones. Nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate and possibly mood swings. If you've taken too much of any stimulant. Nausea and vomiting for sure. For sure. You know those if you take too much. I think that's pretty much. You have anything else?
John:
No, I think that's it. Again, I'm sure some of you guys are curious of what products we carry our DMHA. The two categories are obviously going to be fat burners and pre-workouts. So we'll link down below to our DMHA pre-workouts, our DMHA fat burners and our DMHA guides. You guys can check all that out right down below.
Brad:
And in the comments, if you've tried both of them, let us know in the comments which one you liked more, what you think about both, and give us your comparison as well. All right.
