Today we are going to be talking about High Tech Pharmaceutical's Ideal Meal, which is a meal replacement powder.

John:
Okay, so this is one of High Tech's brand new products. Have you ever tried meal replacements before?

Maddie:
No, not until today.

John:
Yeah. I think I've maybe had an Ensure here and there, but I've never really gotten into meal replacements. This is High Tech's newest supplement, and I believe this is actually something that used to be on the market and they brought back. I think we saw some images online of... looked like this was maybe out 10, 15 years ago. So we actually tried this this morning. We also learned a new word. What word did we learn?

Maddie:
I forgot.

John:
Satiated.

Maddie:
Yeah, that.

John:
So we tried this ahead of time. We wanted to see if this actually fills your hunger. And what'd you think?

Maddie:
Yeah, I think it totally worked. I was full until probably 1:00, and we took it, what, around 9:00?

John:
Yeah. And I felt like I ate an entire meal.

Maddie:
Yeah. I was so full.

John:
So I would say I think it did its job at that point. Says here, "High Tech has developed Ideal Meal using the first scientifically engineered serum protein concentrate." So what that's going to do, that's going to make the protein in here more bioavailable. You're going to absorb a lot more of it. And I think probably the meal replacement most people are familiar with is Ensure. So I figured we'd kind of stack it up against theirs. So let's go apples to apples. How many calories we got in the Ideal Meal?

Maddie:
258.

John:
So we got 220 in here. So slightly more calories, but in pretty much every other area, Ideal Meal seems to be leaner, less sugar. What do you got for fat?

Maddie:
Fat is two grams.

John:
Okay. So Ensure has got six grams. Saturated fat?

Maddie:
0.5.

John:
One gram. And I think the other thing people care about, sugars. How many sugars in there?

Maddie:
Two grams.

John:
Okay. And we got 10 grams of sugar in Ensure. So by most of the standards that people seem to care about, I think Ideal Meal has them beat. I forgot to look at protein. Protein, nine grams here. We got 40 grams in there.

Maddie:
40, yeah.

John:
So that's huge. And so we got 40 grams of protein, 20 grams of carbs, only two grams of fat. This is great as a meal replacement or would be great as a post-workout drink with all that protein.

Maddie:
Definitely.

John:
The taste. What'd you think?

Maddie:
It wasn't as flavorful as I'd like it to be. It was kind of plain, to be honest. But it was, I mean, it was manageable. It was still good.

John:
Yeah. I thought the same thing. As a kid, I used to drink my mom's Weight Watcher shakes or Jenny Craig shakes, whatever they were, and they were pretty tasty. So I was kind of looking forward to this. I would say it wasn't bad, it wasn't good. It was just kind of like a kind of a bland chocolate protein, which I guess you're drinking it for the meal replacement, not the taste.

Maddie:
Not really for the taste, yeah.

John:
I guess now that we've got the open tub, could you see yourself drinking this at work instead of breakfast some days?

Maddie:
Yeah, probably, because I usually eat breakfast here at work anyways. So I mean, if I don't feel like eating, I'll just pop a shake in and drink that.

John:
Yeah. I've been making egg sandwiches in the morning and stuff, but I mean, on days where I'm too lazy or feel like eating a little bit less calories, I mean, this would definitely keep me full until lunchtime

Maddie:
Plus, it's 40 grams of protein, and we all know I need more protein.

John:
Protein, right?

Maddie:
Yeah.

John:
So this is available in vanilla and chocolate. Obviously, High Tech makes Precision Protein, which has a huge lineup of, what, 16 flavors, 20 flavors, something like that. So I wouldn't be surprised if some of the Precision Protein flavors came over here, maybe blueberry muffin or something like that.

Maddie:
I'd like to try those.

John:
I think that'd probably be pretty good. But yeah, we got this one on the site now. We got it back in the warehouse, so it's in stock, available to ship. I don't recall off the top of my head what we sell this for.

Maddie:
I don't either, unfortunately, but we'll let you know.
