ISS Research Oh Yeah! One Bar Key Ingredients Rundown
Whey Protein Isolate - This form has the most available protein you can get, generally over 90% without any carbs, lactose, or fat. It is more purified than whey concentrate, and is more easily digestible because it is lactose free. It also has a high BCAA content.
Milk Protein Isolate - This contains whey and casein proteins, which places it between the digestion rate of the two. Whey digests very quickly while casein has a much slower release. This consists mostly of casein, giving the bars a rich texture.
Isomalto-oligosaccharides - These are a combination of short-chain carbohydrates that are able to resist digestion, meaning you won’t get any particularly valuable nutrients from them. However, that doesn’t mean they are without benefits. They are low glycemic, resist cavities and are a source of prebiotics. Prebiotics promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut, resulting in smooth digestion. This ingredient is also what is used to sweeten the bars without raising the amount of sugar.
Maltitol - This is a type of sugar alcohol that’s used as a replacement for sugar. It has 75-90% of the sweetness of sucrose, but with half the caloric count. This also doesn’t promote cavities just like IMO, and it can be found in a wide range of foods like chewing gum, sugar-free chocolate, and hard candies. You might experience the “cooling feeling” that some get when consuming sugar alcohols.
Glycerine - The last major sweetener in these bars is glycerine. Another common sugar alcohol used in the food industry. This has 27 calories per teaspoon and has a lower glycemic index than sucrose. It won’t make your blood sugar skyrocket or give you the bottom out that comes with regular candy bars containing sugar and high fructose corn syrup.
